ELBAZ HONOR: Alber Elbaz believes in giving back. The Lanvin artistic director, who was mentored by the late Geoffrey Beene, will be the recipient of the 50th anniversary Geoffrey Beene Fashion Impact Award at the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund dinner on Jan. 8 in New York. The dinner, which will be held at the Waldorf-Astoria, will honor industry leaders and grant scholarships to 130 YMA FSF students and eight Geoffrey Beene National Scholars who are pursuing a career in fashion. The event will also honor former PVH Corp. president Allen Sirkin, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. The retailer of the year award will go to Ross Stores Inc. and will be accepted by the company’s chief executive officer, Michael Balmuth. CNN national correspondent Alina Cho will serve as host for the dinner, which is underwritten by the Geoffrey Beene Foundation.
Since its inception in 1937, YMA has awarded more than $8 million in scholarships to over 900 students. The association with the Geoffrey Beene Foundation was formed in 2005 when the charity formed a $4 million alliance that will run through 2014 to expand support for students.
