ERDEM BY THE BAY: London-based Erdem Moralioglu celebrated a decade in business with a fall 2015 runway show at the new Pier 27 cruise terminal overlooking the San Francisco Bay Wednesday night.
The show, produced by Saks Fifth Avenue to benefit the San Francisco Opera, drew Komal Shah, Jean Larette, Stephanie Marver, Deepa Pakianathan, Wilkes Bashford, Connie Nielsen and Vanessa Getty, who said, “I want everything.”
The following morning, the designer started the day with an early brunch at Saks Fifth Avenue before his trunk show.
He shared that he’s been so focused on design, growing his business, and planning his London boutique that there’s been little time to relax at his newly acquired Victorian terrace house overlooking a park in east London.
“I walk or bicycle to my studio in Clerkenwell every day and stop for a flat white at a new coffee bar on the way,” he said. “I love my work. I’m completely immersed.”
Occasionally he attends art shows and adds to his growing collection of photography by the likes of Wolfgang Tillmans, Candida Hofer and Rineke Dijkstra. “I love portrait photography where there’s a narrative, a character, a story in the image,” he said.
And with that, he was off for a tour of the Legion of Honor museum and a cruise to Alcatraz, after which Vanessa and Billy Getty swept him up for a casual dinner at Tosca in North Beach.
Next on Erdem’s roster is the June opening of his boutique in London’s South Audley Street in Mayfair. The shop will include an upstairs bespoke salon, custom shoes by Nicholas Kirkwood and sunglasses by Linda Farrow.
