Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick and the rest of the “Gossip Girl” gang are undeniably celluloid style-setters, but even the show’s costume designer, Eric Daman, has been surprised by the level of interest and how the show has integrated pop culture. The CW’s social media tie-ins — Facebook, Twitter and the like — have helped solidify the teen cast’s fashion reach with many fans taking a closer look of the clothes online as soon as they appear on the tele, he said after Jenny Packham’s show Monday.
There are no immediate plans for a double G collection at this point but the idea has been tossed around. As for the show’s lure, Daman said, “People are sick of the recession. They want something glamorous to dream about and to take them away from their misery and social repression.”
He has his own distractions, namely a signature collection with Charlotte Russe that debuts for holiday, and will be followed up with Valentine’s Day and prom looks — the essentials.
