ESKANDAR EXPANDS: After a seven-year hiatus in U.S. retail expansion, London-based designer Eskandar is adding two stores here in short order. A more than 5,000-square-foot location on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood, Calif., opened last week and a 2,000-square-foot Chicago store will open by August on Walton Street. Discussing his West Coast real estate choice across the street from Maxfield during a tour of the two-story gallery-like Melrose Avenue store, Eskandar said, “This is where I’ve been going to for years. Rodeo is not my kind of place.”
The lifestyle store contains a range of merchandise from jewelry to home goods and sells Eskandar’s spring collection and a vintage collection of pieces made out of antique monogrammed sheets. Eskandar will likely wait a while again before his next store, but it is expected to be in the U.S. as well. “I’ve resisted expanding too quickly for so many years. I just want to do it under control,” he explained. Abroad, Eskandar has stores in Paris, London and Milan. The brand’s domestic wholesale presence is limited to Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus. Outside the U.S., Eskandar is sold at Holt Renfrew in Canada, Liberty and Harrods in London, Saks Fifth Avenue in Dubai, Bahrain and Kazakhstan, Myer in Australia and Shinsegae South Korea.
