Apparently, Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek has taken a real shining to Vera Wang well beyond the skating rink. Earlier this year, the designer suited him up for the Vancouver Winter Olympics and she was in the crowd for his winning performance. Now it is the champion figure skater’s turn to pay homage. Well dressed in a slim black suit and tie, Lysacek said he had spent the past few days trailing Wang as she put the finishing touches on her spring collection. “I’ve learned quite a bit through Vera,” he said. “It’s really interesting to see what goes into a collection. That kind of creativity is extremely important, especially now in a world that is less about money. People can set themselves apart by the clothes they choose to wear. That’s an easy way for us to express ourselves every day.”
Keen as he is about style, it is not surprising that Lysacek aims to develop a sportswear line “to bring to his fans and to guys” who might not know him. The 25-year-old hasn’t ruled out another Olympic bid for the 2014 Games, but for now, he is “working on building my brand and embracing that.” A line of nutritional supplements is also in the works, “something that keeps me running on high octane with very little sleep,” he said.
