NOT EASY BEING GREEN: “It was a real challenge,” Charlotte Casiraghi said of her sustainability magazine Ever Manifesto’s latest project — an issue dedicated to bamboo and a related design competition in partnership with Gucci — at a brunch hosted by the brand in Paris on Wednesday. The competition asked young designers from the Institut Français de Mode to take inspiration from Gucci’s Bamboo bag.
The winner, Romanian designer Laura Popoviciu, will have her recycled cotton and bamboo shopper produced as a limited series for Gucci’s flagship stores. “There is too much green-washing in this industry,” Alexia Niedzielski, Casiraghi’s partner on the project alongside Elizabeth von Guttman, complained. “Our requirement with Gucci from the beginning was that it had to actually go into production.” Brands take note: The three eco-fashionistas plan to work with other labels on future projects.
