Exhibit Offers a Feast for the Eyes

A show on sartorial extravagance just debuted in Calais, France.

SARTORIAL SPECTACLE: An eye-catching exhibition entitled “Plein les Yeux” (or “A Feast For The Eyes,” in English) opened at the Cité internationale de la dentelle et la mode in Calais, France, on Wednesday.

It shows off sartorial extravagance that spins the thread from the Renaissance to today. Standout pieces include the red silk robe French actress Isabelle Adjani wore on screen as Queen Margot as well as Scarlett O’Hara’s “Gone With the Wind” wardrobe. An artful lineup of haute couture garments from the houses of Christian Dior, Chanel, Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Thierry Mugler up the exhibit’s glamour factor.

Complete with paintings, posters and movie extracts, the exhibit, which runs through April 28, highlights the influence of foregone dress codes on the apparel of today.
