Fashion Fringe Names Semifinalists

Ten designers will compete for a two-year business development package.

EYE ON THE PRIZE: Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s chief creative officer and current chair of the U.K.’s Fashion Fringe program to discover and support emerging design talent, today announced the 10 semifinalists for the 2012 competition.

They are: Cornel Bolt; Dobrowolski Af Rosenborg; Dejan; Fischer; Haizhen Wang; Miyoko Kamijo; Raffaele Ascione; Shu Ting Wang; and Teija and Vita Gottlieb.

“It has been truly inspiring to review the work of these incredibly bright and creative entrants — each and every one of them with such a strong expression and point of view,” Bailey stated. “The submissions that we have seen…reinforce the amazing talent, energy and creativity that run through the U.K.”

The 10 semifinalists will next attend a day of technical assessment and a board interview with Bailey and Colin McDowell, the founder and creative director of Fashion Fringe.

Then later in May, the organization will announce the three labels selected as finalists. Those designers will then work to create capsule collections to present at Fashion Fringe’s runway show at London Fashion Week in September, when Bailey will pick a winner, who will receive a two-year development package to set up and sustain their business.
