ALL FOR ANDRE 3000: Charlize Theron and beau Stewart Townsend are clearly fond of André Benjamin, aka André 3000 — they’re going to host a party for him at Barneys New York during fashion week. The Sept. 4 party will help the store kick off its exclusive on the rapper-singer’s men’s wear line Benjamin Bixby, and is likely to be followed by an “intimate” dinner for the trio’s friends. And how did this all come about? Benjamin features in the upcoming film “Battle in Seattle,” which Townsend wrote and directed and which also stars Theron and Woody Harrelson.
THAKOON’S NEXT: Designing for Hogan in addition to his own collection clearly isn’t enough for Thakoon Panichgul. Target said Wednesday that he will be the next Go International designer. His collection will launch in late September and run through January, and be available at most Target stores and target.com.
JEWELED WORLD: Boucheron kicks off its Stateside 150th anniversary bash with the see-it-to-believe it show named Désir, done in collaboration with theater group Spiegelworld. Think Big Top-gone-cabaret, but just inspired by “the style and sensuality of the Boucheron jewelry,” said Spiegelworld producer Ross Mollison. How does that translate dancewise, exactly? Find out tonight at Pier 17 on South Street Seaport in Manhattan, at the party cohosted by Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Vanessa Traina, or this Sunday, when the show makes its formal debut.
BUSY BODY: It should come as no surprise that the hardest-working fashion person in Europe this month is Karl Lagerfeld. The designer of Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld collections is in the South of France sketching various collections and also illustrating a fashion story for British Vogue. Not that there’s no fun and games. On Wednesday night, the VIP Room in Saint-Tropez was the site of an official Lagerfeld party, but — ever the worker bee — the designer hand-painted the invitation himself.
RODRIGUEZ HONORED: Narciso Rodriguez will be the first designer to receive a Special Achievement in Fashion Award at this year’s American Latino Media Arts Awards, which take place Saturday at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif. Jessica Alba will present the award to Rodriguez, who will join honorees Shakira and Linda Ronstadt and presenters America Ferrera and the Black Eyed Peas. The show, which kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month, will air on Sept. 12 on ABC.
VERSACE TOURBILLON: Versace unveiled a new Swiss-made limited edition watch, the Acron Tourbillon, on Wednesday, marking the Italian maison’s debut in complex movement watchmaking. The BNB1050 caliber watch is manually wound, functions at a frequency of 21,600 rotations per hour and possesses a running time of approximately 120 hours. The Tourbillon’s mobile cage completes a full rotation every minute and is visible at the sixth position of the dial. Ninety diamonds adorn the case and an elegant black mat alligator wristband with a rose gold expandable buckle completes the look.
