A GIRL FOR STELLA: Stella McCartney and her husband, Alasdhair Willis, have welcomed the latest addition to their family — a baby girl. Reiley Dilys Stella Willis was born on the evening of Nov. 23 in London, weighing eight pounds. Reiley is the couple’s fourth child. She joins brothers Miller, age five, and Beckett, two, and sister Bailey, three.

LATE-NIGHT SHOPPING: Fashion’s Night Out will return for a third time next September. NYC & Company, Vogue and the Council of Fashion Designers of America set the date for Thursday, Sept. 8. That’s also the first day of the spring 2012 collections in New York. STELLA WEAVES HER WEB: In more Stella McCartney news — the company, that is — this week unveiled a new design for its Web and e-commerce site. The site, which now offers e-commerce in the U.K. as well as in the U.S., is designed to reflect the designer’s “clean and modern aesthetic,” the company said. Its homepage features a shot of Natalia Vodianova in the label’s fall campaign, with cartoon figures by British artist Barry Reigate adorning the Stella McCartney logo. The site will carry a greater selection of McCartney’s ready-to-wear, accessories and lingerie, and will allow customers to shop for pieces by selecting from different looks. It will also direct visitors to McCartney’s personal picks of her collection, and to what’s new at the online store. The “Stella’s World” section features McCartney’s tips on living a more eco-conscious lifestyle, the designer’s favorite charities and her label’s latest news. The site also links to her Stella McCartney Kids and Adidas by Stella McCartney collections, alongside her beauty line.
In addition to the Web site, a Stella McCartney iPad app is set for release. And for spring 2011, the site will offer e-commerce in eight further European countries.
A SAMSONITE SALE?: CVC Capital Partners has hired Goldman Sachs to help it decide on the future of Samsonite, which it purchased in summer 2007 for $1.7 billion. A source close to CVC confirmed the company was “exploring its options,” following reports in the British press that CVC was looking to float the luggage maker on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. An IPO is not the only option, the source said, and others include a sale or refinancing. CVC holds a 60 percent stake in the company, and the Royal Bank of Scotland, which helped to finance the original purchase and to ease CVC’s debt load when the company ran into trouble after the financial crisis of 2007-’08, holds a minority stake in the business. Spokesmen for CVC and Goldman Sachs both declined to comment. According to CVC, Samsonite’s sales in 2008 were $1.25 billion. More recent figures have not been reported.
TETE A TEMPERLEY: “She’s the queen of Boho. You can wear her designs for anything, the pub, on holiday, I love them,” said Poppy Delevigne of her friend Alice Temperley’s designs, during a special anniversary party for Temperley’s diffusion line, Alice, last Thursday. The event, held in a West London pub, attracted a clutch of Temperley acolytes, including Jacquetta Wheeler, Jaime Winstone, Ellie Goulding, Lara Bohinc and Daisy Lowe, who embraced the event’s “English Eccentrics” costume party theme, sporting top hats, military jackets and sequined tuxedos. Temperley was decked in head-to-toe leopard print, complete with a matching fez-style hat. “It’s a mixture of personal items. Everything means something to me,” said the designer, adding she was currently working on a coffee-table book about her label, which is due to launch next year.
RICHES TO RAG TRADE: Prior to becoming a Real Housewife of New York, Jill Zarin racked up nearly two decades of experience working in the apparel business, first as a men’s dress shirt buyer at Filene’s and then in sales at a string of sock companies, including E.G. Smith, Royce Hosiery and Great American Knitting Mills. Now Zarin is leveraging that résumé to launch her own shapewear and leggings line under the Skweez Couture by Jill Zarin brand. “I’m obsessed with looking my best, and I wear Spanx, but there’s no competition out there,” said Zarin, who has partnered with Boca Raton-based Triad Hosiery on the venture.
The line, which will include about 25 stockkeeping units, will retail from $20 to $50, said Gregg Kallen, president of Triad Hosiery, and is planned to hit retail in the second quarter of next year. Zarin has scored appointments with Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Lord & Taylor, thanks in part to her old contacts — macys.com president of merchandising Jeff Kantor was Zarin’s first boss. Earlier this month, the Jill Zarin Home collection of bedding hit Bed Bath & Beyond.
CIAO MILANO: Burberry unveiled its first European Burberry Brit store last weekend in Milan. The 2,690-square-foot space, designed by creative director Christopher Bailey, houses the Burberry Brit, Sport and Accessories collections comprimising men’s wear, women’s wear, nonapparel, fragrances, watches and eyewear. The boutique is located at 9 Corso Venezia and is the thrid Burerry Brit store to open in the span of a year after the inaugurations of units in New York on Madison Avenue and Columbus Avenue, respectively.
