A STONE’S THROW: Could Sharon Stone be the next face of Damiani? The outspoken star, whose Dior beauty ads were removed and recalled by Dior China last month after her controversial comments on the country’s massive earthquake and the Dalai Lama, might have herself a new advertising gig. Tonight she is hosting a party at Two Rodeo in Beverly Hills for Damiani, along with the Italian jewelry firm’s vice president and chief designer, Silvia Damiani. Stone has been seen in recent months glistening in the brand’s diamond and gemstone jewelry, most recently at the Cannes Film Festival. Other celebrities attached to the brand include Gwyneth Paltrow, Sophia Loren and Brad Pitt, who designed one of the firm’s top-selling rings.
QUILTING BEE: Chanel addicts, come hither. Portero.com, the online auction Web site that offers vintage items from luxury companies, has collected 200 vintage and classic quilted Chanel bags that will be auctioned today on the site. While Chanel has no affiliations with the sale, Portero’s team — which acquired the bags through private collectors — has authenticated the bags, which range from a small lizard pochette to a leather-trimmed forest green flannel bag. The firm set up an elaborate display at Anthony Todd in New York on Wednesday, and welcomed hosts such as Melanie Charlton Fascitelli, Emilia Fanjul Pfeifler and Allison Sarofim and VIPs to place early bids. “You expect Chanel to be the classic pieces, but there’s so much more,” said Stephanie Phair, vice president of merchandising for Portero. “Most of these bags are one-of-a-kind or discontinued.” While this is Portero’s first special accessories sale, there are more to come. In the fall, the firm is planning to do an Hermès-themed auction.

LAGERFELD PLAYS IT SAFE: Could Karl Lagerfeld do for fluorescent vests what he did for fans, dark glasses and fingerless gloves? Road safety experts in France hope so. They’ve tapped the designer to appear in a new road-safety campaign for summer, geared to encourage drivers to equip themselves with security vests and triangles. In it, Lagerfeld is pictured wearing dark glasses on a road at night, clad in a reflective safety vest over a black suit and bow tie.
The tag line reads: “It’s yellow, it’s ugly, it doesn’t go with anything, but it could save your life.”
THE SWEET LIFE: Dylan Lauren has learned a few things from her father, Ralph — like there is nothing wrong with recruiting some luxury talent. The designer’s daughter has tapped Maggy Siegel as president and chief operating officer of Dylan’s Candy Bar. Tiffany, Coach, Chanel and Judith Leiber are among the companies Siegel has worked for in the past 25 years. She steps into this new post just as Dylan’s is expanding its New York flagship to 15,000 square feet and preparing to launch in Neiman Marcus stores this fall. But mastering the names of the 5,000 types of candy sold in the company’s five freestanding stores and online may be a trickier assignment for Siegel.
