DIDDY’S DEALS: Sean “Diddy” Combs continues to be one of the fashion world’s more prolific deal-makers. Combs said Monday afternoon — during an interview concerning the women’s fragrance he will launch in September — that he was close to signing licensing agreements for Sean John-branded watches and girls’ apparel. The latter is a natural move for Combs, who recently welcomed twin daughters — Jessie James and D’Lila Star Combs — with longtime girlfriend Kim Porter, also the mother of Christian, one of Combs’ two sons (son Justin‘s mother is stylist Misa Hylton-Brim). “When we started 10 years ago, people categorized us as an urban brand,” said Combs of Sean John. “Now we’re evolving. We’re getting into suits and neckties and eyewear, and about to announce watches and footwear and girls’ clothes [he already produces boys’ clothes].” When asked about his women’s apparel line, Combs insisted “it’s on hiatus” but not dead forever, and that it could be reintroduced within two years. As to why it went on hiatus, Combs said: “If it wasn’t going to be a huge success and I didn’t know everything I need to know, it was better to take a step back.”
DRESS FOR SUCCESS: Thursday not only marks the 10th anniversary of Dress for Success’ annual gala, but also event chair Bobbi Brown‘s 50th birthday. “Well, technically, I have until Saturday, so I will still be 49 at the gala,” Brown said. But giving back to her favorite charity was how Brown decided to spend her big day. “A year ago, I looked at the calendar and realized this April I would be turning 50 and on a book tour for ‘Living Beauty,’ and I thought, How do I want to celebrate? I wanted to do something good.” Her goal is to raise $1 million, more than the event has raised before and an amount Brown thinks will be surpassed with nearly 1,000 guests already having bought tickets for Thursday’s “Suits, Strength & Success” at the Marriott Marquis in New York. Auctioned items — including Brown’s beauty kits decorated by designers such as Tory Burch and Cynthia Rowley — will also add to the total. Isaac Mizrahi will emcee the evening, which is recognizing 10 honorees including Peter Nordstrom, Damon Dash, Rachel Roy, Andrew Rosen and Paula Sutton.
