FERGIE GETS GLAM: MAC Cosmetics has tapped Stacy “Fergie” Ferguson, the Grammy Award-winning singer, as the next Viva Glam spokeswoman. The deal includes a Viva Glam ad campaign featuring Ferguson, which breaks in February, as well as a new limited edition MAC Viva Glam Lipglass. Since 1994, the MAC Viva Glam campaigns have raised more than $95 million dollars to benefit the MAC AIDS Fund, which supports people living with HIV/AIDS globally.
HUNK ALARM: Flesh will be the theme at Marc by Marc Jacobs this weekend. The men’s store at 382 Bleecker Street in Manhattan will feature unclothed staffers Andrew Weyer, Kyle Avila, Chico Clark and Owen Marvel signing and selling T-shirts of themselves to benefit the New York University School of Medicine, Interdisciplinary Melanoma Cooperative Group. The four men won’t be totally nude, but are expected to cover their private parts in some way, perhaps with the T-shirts. “They compete with each other about who can sell the most T-shirts,” Marc Jacobs’ business partner, Robert Duffy, said. “So I said, ‘why not autograph them and appear naked on Saturday,’ and they just said, ‘OK.'”
Duffy and Jacobs were inspired to reprint most of the T-shirts from their 2006 initiative after being honored at the NYU Cancer Institute Gala earlier this month. The duo is also adding new ones featuring Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen, Alison Lohman and Joss Stone. Duffy hopes to raise about $500,000 with this new batch of $35 T-shirts, which will also go out to other Marc by Marc Jacobs stores worldwide.
Nudity, of course, is becoming quite a theme with Jacobs, who recently showed much skin in magazines like W, Out and Visionaire.
“This [initiative] started a long time ago, but Marc’s personal nudity is just a recent phenomenon,” Duffy said. “It’s interesting that he didn’t pose [for the T-shirt] this year. I think he’s overexposed.”
PARTY HEARTY: “Everybody’s here,” exclaimed Narciso Rodriguez, scanning the crowd at the Bowery Hotel Wednesday night, where Iman hosted a party to celebrate Alber Elbaz and Barneys New York chief Howard Socol. While the vast venue spread the crowd a little thin, there was a familiar face in every nook and corner, including Behnaz Sarafpour, Helen Schifter, Lisa Airan, Maria Cornejo, Richard Chai and Phillip Lim. “I feel so comfortable every time I come to New York,” gushed Elbaz, who was hugged from all angles.
The invite had asked for “Grub, Dancing, and Shenanigans,” but sadly, only a few dared to be naughty. “My dancing days are over and I am wearing these,” joked Iman, pointing to her towering Lanvin platforms.
Simon Doonan, meanwhile, claimed the most fun. “I got to go and pick up Ms. Iman,” he said. “She’s a laugh, so dry and hilarious. She should have her own television show. If they’re all like her in Somalia, I am going there on my next vacation.”
SEEING RED: Designers don’t usually take kindly to being in the red. But in the name of charity, the likes of Stefano Pilati, Valentino, Marc Jacobs and Giorgio Armani were all game. These are just a few of the personalities, including Catherine Deneuve and Philippe Starck, who agreed to be snapped by Julio Piatti and Tom de Ruiter to raise money for the AIDS charity Sidaction. Each black-and-white portrait features a hand-painted red element — in Pilati’s case, his pooch, and for Valentino, the column in Place Vendôme. The prints will be sold via a silent auction held at the HSBC bank on the Champs-Elysées from Nov. 13 to 15. The prints have also been assembled in a coffee-table book, “Le Fil Rouge,” or The Red Thread, available from Nov. 8.
ART OF THE PRINT: Pucci is continuing its worldwide 60th anniversary celebrations with a dinner during Art Basel Miami on Dec. 5. Laudomia Pucci, Delphine Arnault and Matthew Williamson are jetting into town to host the affair at a private estate. The Italian brand will be bringing its own art to Florida: the house will be decked out with a specially commissioned installation by artist Gérard Cholot, which made its first appearance at the Palazzo Pucci in Florence earlier this year. “It makes so much sense for us to come to Miami,” said Pucci, who is making her first expedition to the art fair. “Art Basel Miami is international but it’s in America, and Pucci has that mention of something that is artistic and special.
“Personally, I love contemporary art,” she continued, adding she hoped to have the time to visit the fair itself. Indeed, her schedule is packed — she’ll be hosting a ladies luncheon the next day.
BRING ON BARBIE: After styling Carrie Bradshaw and “Ugly Betty,” Patricia Field’s next client is Barbie. The New York-based Field is blending her downtown chic with the doll’s nostalgic femininity to create a collection of sportswear, vintage-inspired dresses, jewelry and handbags that will launch next spring. The lineup was to make its premiere at Directives West’s fashion show today to kick off Los Angeles’ contemporary fashion market, and then make its official launch on Nov. 13 at Field’s store in New York. Field is the latest trendsetter to collaborate with Mattel to spruce up the American icon, joining the likes of Anna Sui, Tarina Tarantino and Anya Hindmarch. “Hopefully something wonderful will emerge,” said Field via e-mail from New York, where she is currently designing costumes for “Sex and the City: The Movie” and the new ABC series “Cashmere Mafia,” starring Lucy Liu.
MOST LIKELY TO SUCCEED: Damon Dash had a busy night Monday. First he was on a panel about fashion at Carnegie Hall and then he hosted a post-screening party at Manhattan’s Socialista of “Mr. Untouchable,” the documentary he coproduced about Harlem drug lord Nicky Barnes. Among those at the event were “It” runway girl Chanel Iman, 16, and Dash’s son, Damon II, aka “Boogie,” 15. The young duo have been hitting the town together after being introduced by André Leon Talley. The high schoolers certainly won the evening’s best-dressed category, she in Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and Chanel (natch), and he in Christopher Bevans, Adidas and droopy denim. So where was the power couple off to next? “Home,” said Dash Jr. “I’ve got math class at 8 in the morning.”
