HORSING AROUND: Exotic mad-hatters traditionally abound at Hermès’ annual Prix de Diane horse race and picnic party — and this year was no exception. (One guest wore a plastic fairy castle chapeau.) India was this year’s theme, but that didn’t stop Pierre-Alexis Dumas, the house’s joint artistic director, from chatting about an upcoming exhibit in China. “It will be a retrospective of Hermès’ silk scarves,” said Dumas of the show, which will run for a couple of weeks in Hong Kong later this month before moving on to the Shanghai Art Museum in September.
Meanwhile, French actress Julie Gayet kept her cool while making bets, thanks to a vibrant Indian parasol. Gayet disclosed she’ll soon be fronting a British pop group. “I’ve been recording an album with a group of musicians based in Manchester [England],” said Gayet, declining to name names or that of the “well-known” star who’s penned some of the band’s lyrics.
MOURET DAY: Roland Mouret will make his Paris couture week debut on July 4 with the unveiling of his new, high-end capsule collection. RM by Roland Mouret, featuring 21 tailored looks, will be delivered to stores in November. The show will take place at 9:45 a.m., although the venue has yet to be revealed. “I feel like I have come full circle: first London, then New York and now Paris. I am bringing a slice of each culture back to the place where I started. I can’t wait,” the designer said. The collection is Mouret’s first under 19RM, which he formed in the fall with Simon Fuller, the founder of 19 Entertainment Ltd., the London-based media and branded entertainment firm.
FASHION HONORS: Naoki Takizawa is the latest fashion designer to be honored by France. The former Issey Miyake designer will be made a chevalier of art and letters in a ceremony in Paris on Friday. Takizawa plans to launch his own fashion line in New York in September with the backing of Miyake.
SWEET MONTANA: Old-fashion heroes never die in Paris. They get invited to make pastries. At least that’s the case with Claude Montana, who, earlier this month, unveiled a cake he “designed” for the legendary Café de la Paix. He calls the white chocolate and passion fruit confection set on a coconut biscuit “Passion Victim.” Its shape vaguely resembles the bottle of his 1989 fragrance, “Parfum d’Elle.” He promised that the cake was just as light as the fragrance smelled. Montana said he hadn’t disavowed the past. “I want to write a book about the people I met and appreciated during my career,” he said.

ROBERTS’ NEW BAG: Dooney & Bourke launched its new Emma Roberts collection Saturday in Hollywood after the “Nancy Drew” premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. The leather handbags, available in small and large sizes retailing from $210 to $235, were codesigned by the 16-year-old actress and feature double shoulder straps and a tube-shaped, slightly curved silhouette cinched at the ends. The bags sell in Dooney’s nine freestanding stores, online and in major department stores. Roberts, niece of Julia Roberts and daughter of Eric Roberts, is the latest in a line of teen spokesmodels for the brand, who have included Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan, but is the first to have a collection named for her.
WHALE OF A TIME: Quintessentially and Van Cleef & Arpels teamed up for their first summer party on Thursday, transforming London’s Hertford House into a Fifties-style seaside resort complete with striped deck chairs, tea lights and umbrellas. Beach revelers included hosts Ben Elliot, Aaron Simpson and Geoffroy Medinger, along with guests Lady Gabriella Windsor, Alice Temperley, Stephen Jones, Nick Jones, Charlotte Tilbury, Melissa Odabash, Nicky Haslam, Sheherazade Goldsmith, Ben and Kate Goldsmith, Sabrina Guinness, Patrick Cox, Poppy Delevigne, Sophia Hesketh and Marina Hanbury. Although Hertford House closed its doors at 1 a.m. — when the martini and Champagne taps went dry — hard-core partygoers rocked into the small hours during the after party at nearby members’ club, Volstead.
SMELLING SALTS: “It’s the Discovery Channel meets the Food Network,” is how The New York Times fragrance critic Chandler Burr describes his upcoming “scent dinner” being held at The Carlyle on Monday. Indeed, for $200 a ticket, diners will be treated to a five-course meal featuring dishes created to reflect the notes found in perfumes such as Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue or Missoni’s new scent. For instance, executive chef Jimmy Sakatos will serve an entrée of rock shrimp with heirloom baby carrots and a carrot ginger emulsion to match Roger and Gallet’s Gingembre fragrance, which carries a hint of ginger. Before each bite, Burr will guide guests through a series of smells, breaking down fragrances, and thus the meal, into a combination of separate notes.
After The Carlyle, Burr will host similar dinners at other Rosewood Hotels & Resort properties, including The Mansion on Turtle Creek in Dallas and Inn of the Anasazi in Santa Fe.
