SIMON SAYS: British actor Simon Woods, known for his roles in “Pride & Prejudice” and “Rome,” may have looked great modeling Yves Saint Laurent’s fall men’s wear in a film designer Stefano Pilati presented to the press in Paris Wednesday night. But who would have guessed the thespian was a political activist — for Hillary Clinton, to boot? Woods said he crossed the pond to campaign door-to-door for Clinton in the Iowa primary and that he’s returning to the U.S. next week to do the same in South Carolina. “People are surprised when they see [a Brit] at the door,” he said. “In the end, it’s that much more effective because they realize I believe in [Clinton].” Woods said he met Clinton through her daughter, Chelsea, whom he befriended at Oxford. “[Hillary’s] really the nicest person in the world,” he said.
FUR FLYING?: Does Revillon have its eye on Peter Dundas? Sources in Paris said the furrier was considering the former Emanuel Ungaro designer to energize its collections. A spokesman for Revillon said the company was contemplating several names and that a decision had yet to be made. Designer Rick Owens left Revillon after Yves Salomon acquired it just over a year ago.
MINI-ME: Already an icon in his own right, Karl Lagerfeld is becoming a collectible, too. The designer has collaborated with Pixi on a miniature lead figurine of himself in his trademark regalia. The doll is being issued in a limited run of 1,000 figures and is on sale exclusively in Paris at Colette for 200 euros, or about $300.
FASHIONABLY LATE: On Jan. 31, nine days before the lights go down on his fall runway show, Marc Jacobs will be cohosting a screening of the documentary “Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton” with the Cinema Society at Manhattan’s Tribeca Grand hotel. Director Loïc Pringent interviewed the designer’s boldfaced friends and fans, including Uma Thurman and Demi Moore, for the film, and Helena Christensen, Sofia Coppola and Michael Stipe are expected at the screening and after party. Those who will be elsewhere around town that night — either on the party circuit or in the design studio — can catch the film on the Sundance Channel next month.

LONDON EYES: Mulberry is adding eyewear to its steadily growing product portfolio. For spring, the British brand collaborated with cult London designer and vintage label Cutler & Gross on a five-piece collection of sunglasses. It is inspired by Cutler & Gross archive pieces from the early Eighties and Nineties, and will make its debut later this month. Cutler & Gross founder Monica Chong told WWD Thursday, “We’ve made classic pieces, but with a modern twist. We have always admired Mulberry. They are very British, like us.” The five Mulberry eyewear designs will include a classic aviator, along with pieces dubbed Betsie, Jackie, Francis and Debbie. Each is handmade in France or Italy and priced at 225 pounds, or $440.
CAPTAIN PLANET: Alvin Valley — like so many other designers — is out to save the world. The New York fashion designer teamed up with Amanda Hearst to create the “Use It, Don’t Abuse It” canvas tote. Twenty-five thousand of the slate gray canvas totes, which bare the designer’s first name and an image of the globe, will go on sale at Duane Reade drugstores starting next month. A portion of the sales of the $14.99 tote will go to Stevenson Green Roof Consortium, which will install an eco-friendly roof on the Stevenson Campus building in the Bronx. “Even though I wasn’t the first one on the block to do it, I wanted a bag that wasn’t only organic made, but something that’s organic looking,” said Valley, referring to Anya Hindmarch’s wildly successful, limited edition “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” bag, which sold out in hours upon hitting store shelves last year.
