Mulberry Gifts Bags to Leaders at G8 Summit

British Prime Minister David Cameron and President Obama received the Matthew 24, a work and overnight bag that boasts leather and signature Mulberry hardware.

FASHION SUMMIT: Mulberry added a little levity to the G8 summit in Northern Ireland earlier this week, gifting specially made bags to the leaders taking part in the event that took place on June 17 and 18. Leaders, including British Prime Minister David Cameron and President Obama, were no doubt temporarily distracted from topics such as Syria, tax evasion and free-trade agreements by the Matthew 24 Hour bag. A work and overnight bag, the Matthew 24 boasts leather and signature Mulberry hardware, and is part of the brand’s fall 2013 collection. The question remains whether Cameron has already hidden the bag from his wife, Samantha Cameron, the former creative director and currently a consultant for rival Bond Street luxury accessories brand Smythson. German Chancellor Angela Merkel received Mulberry’s Piccadilly, a leather handbag inspired by the company’s famous Bayswater model. All of the bags were made at Mulberry’s factory in Somerset, England, and bore the leaders’ initials.
