RUNWAY DALLAS: Fashion & Style Events and Fashion Industry Gallery are collaborating to present three nights of runway shows tentatively set for Nov. 5 to 8 at FIG. Dubbed Fashion X Dallas, the event will present spring styles by juried, emerging fashion and accessories designers from the area and beyond plus a couple of national contemporary brands, according to Matt Swinney, owner and chief executive officer of Fashion & Style Events in Austin. One evening may feature select “Project Runway” winners and “Project Runway All Stars” contestants, he added. Booths will vend fashion and accessories by new talent. Fashion and accessory designers may apply at fashionxdallas.com.
Swinney’s company owns and produces Austin Fashion Week, which has introduced such talents as Isabella Rose Taylor, the 13-year-old whose stylish tween collection will be sold this summer at Nordstrom.
While Austin Fashion Week is promoted largely as entertainment, the Dallas show hopes to draw many credentialed buyers as well as consumers. “It’s a marketing play for the designers, more than anything,” Swinney said.
Matt Roth, chief executive officer of FIG, sees the festival as a way to boost local talent. “We are trying to set up a fashion fund to present awards to Dallas-Fort Worth designers to help get them going,” Roth noted.
