FENDI GOES VROOM: Fendi has teamed up with iconic car maker Maserati to create the Special Edition Maserati GranCabrio Fendi, which will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2011 in September. Silvia Venturini Fendi designed a new logo to mark the tie up, combining in a silver oval plaque the house’s own double F emblem with Maserati’s trident symbol. Interiors are enriched with the fine leather Cuoio Romano from Fendi’s Selleria line, used also for the suitcases specifically designed as part of a limited edition travel kit. A radica wood trim, Pergamena Fendi, runs across the width of the dashboard, on the doors and on the top of the gear lever, all in the iconic Fendi yellow. The calipers and the embroidered yellow trident on the headrests are also yellow. The double F logo is stitched on the seats, and is also featured in the center of the 19-inch alloy wheels and on the rocker panel.
For the bodywork, Fendi developed a special dark gray paint with an iridescent gold finish called Fiamma Fendi. While prices for the Fendi Maserati have yet to be determined, prices for Maseratis range from 135,151 euros, or $195,000, to 141,151 euros, or $204,000, for the sports version.

The Maserati is part of a project for Fendi dubbed The Whispered Italian Grand Tour, which includes a documentary on a trip throughout Italy discovering craftsmen workshops and boutiques, all stemming from two earlier books promoted by Fendi (“The Whispered Directory of Craftsmanship: A Contemporary Guide to the Italian Handmaking Ability, Volumes 1 and 2”); a music compilation; a photographic diary, and a dedicated Web site.
