Ferragamo Heir Named Relais & Châteaux Guide Ambassador

His family’s Il Borro estate joins the association next year.

TUSCAN DELIGHT: Salvatore Ferragamo, grandson of the Italian shoemaker of the same name and chief executive of the Il Borro family estate, has been named Relais & Châteaux guide ambassador for 2013. Richard Gere and Carole Bouquet filled the role in previous years for the Paris-based association, which selects fine hotel properties and restaurants worldwide.

In 1993, Ferragamo started working on Il Borro’s renovation with his father, Ferruccio Ferragamo, who is its owner. The property, which is about 40 minutes from Florence, is among the 36 properties to be joining Relais & Châteaux in 2013.

Other newcomers include Schlosshotel Im Grunewald, an early 20th-century manor in Berlin designed by Karl Lagerfeld; Barbara Lynch’s Menton restaurant in Boston, and Michael and Lindsay Tusk’s Quince restaurant in San Francisco.
