MASTER PLAN: Honoring a selection of France’s most gifted master artisans, Frédéric Mitterrand, France’s culture minister, on Nov. 23 will award the honorary distinction of “Maître d’Art” (Master of Art, in English) to six professionals from various artistic realms, including embroidery king François Lesage, ceramicist Gérard Borde, and Baccarat crystal engraver Yves Parisse. Since 2010, France’s Masters of Art receive an allocation of 16,000 euros, or about $22,800 at current exchange rates, from the state to fund the three-year education of a student apprentice.
