FRENCH CLASS: Valérie Trierweiler, the outspoken partner of French president François Hollande, stuck to her down-to-earth classic style over the Bastille Day weekend. For her first official appearance since the June legislative elections, she wore a black tailored suit from Apostrophe during a military parade in Paris on Saturday. Later that day, she accompanied Hollande on a trip to the port of Brest in Brittany, keeping warm in unseasonably cool France in an Apostrophe beige duffle coat.
On a day trip to the Avignon Festival in the south of France on Sunday, the presidential couple visited the Collection Lambert of the gallerist Yvon Lambert and attended the play “Six Characters in Search of an Author” by Luigi Pirandello. She opted for a beige top by Georges Rech, worn with the same black tailored suit. “We are very flattered. She is an active and talented woman. She embodies our core target,” Dominique Hazan, general manager of the sister brands Georges Rech and Apostrophe, recently told WWD.

Hollande took advantage of the weekend festivities to clarify Trierweiler’s role. In a televised interview, he said that there would be no official first lady status for her but that she would “be at his side when protocol demands.”
