TRAVEL RETAIL: British retailer French Connection is set to open what it calls its first “convenience store,” in London next week. The 1,000-square-foot space, called “F by French Connection,” will open Monday in East London’s Old Street underground and train station, carrying an edit of the label’s fall 2014 collection, along with gift items. The location will also offer a click and collect service, whereby customers can collect items from the store that they have ordered online, with orders placed before 1 p.m. ready to pick up after 5 p.m. the same day. And playing to East London’s reputation as a creative hub, the label will be inviting local artists to curate the store’s window displays. French Connection is trialling the store for an initial four-month period, and the label is considering opening additional small stores at other transport hubs, the company said. French Connection has partnered with Appear Here, a firm that connects firms with vacant U.K. retail spaces to open pop-up stores, and Transport for London, which operates London’s transport network, to open the space.
