French Luxury Brands Target Turkey

The Comité Colbert is planning a series of events in Istanbul in January.

TALKING TURKEY: French luxury goods makers that do business in Turkey have seen their sales increase on average 30 percent in the last five years. That’s the rationale for “Modernity?” — an exhibition of contemporary art at the Istanbul Modern, opening Jan. 15. It’s the centerpiece of an initiative by French luxury goods association Comité Colbert to boost the profile of French fashions, wine, jewels, tableware and foodstuffs in the Turkish capital.

In tandem with the one-week exhibition, 26 Colbert members are planning additional displays and events in their boutiques. Nicole Bricq, the French Minister of Foreign Trade, is slated to accompany the “Festival Colbert” delegation.
