THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT: Badgley Mischka’s front row was chock-full of celebrities ranging from Alexa Ray Joel and Aly Raisman to Colbie Caillat, Carmen Electra and Petra Nemcova. Raisman, the 18-year-old captain of the gold-medal-winning U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the 2012 Summer Olympics and an individual gold medalist on the floor, said this was her first show of fashion week and she also planned to attend Elie Tahari, Jenny Packham, Rachel Zoe and Nanette Lepore.
“I thought it was amazing. My jaw was dropping,” said Raisman, who said she would rather be “overdressed than underdressed.” Raisman wore a Badgley Mischka black gown with a plunging neckline and a slit up the side to the Golden Globes. She also said she’s been traveling and attended the Cartoon Network Hall of Game Awards, which honors favorite sports stars and sports moments of the year, where she wore a Badgley Mischka dress that was “fun and girly.”
Joel said the Badgley Mischka show “evoked the Hitchcock era and made me think of Tippi Hendren and Kim Novak.” Other shows Joel attended this week were BCBG Max Azria, Nicholas K and “Project Runway.”
In addition to performing and studying classical piano right now, Joel said she’s a fashion correspondent for julib.com, a fashion, food, beauty and shopping Web site, where she runs around with a microphone. “I think it’s important to do other stuff and the pressure’s off you and you get to ask somebody else questions,” said Joel.
But music will always be in her blood. She said she’s looking forward to performing at the Oak Room and The Living Room in New York, doing monthly stints in New York City. “I’m a New York girl,” she said.
