Before Carolina Herrera’s Monday morning show at Lincoln Center, “Daily Show” correspondent and actress Olivia Munn was standing near the start of the runway chatting with passersby.
“It’s weird to be in the front row,” Munn said. “I look at people taking pictures, taking notes and think should I be doing that?”
She smiled and waved her hand in the air: “I’m like, um, ‘new money.’”
Other front-row notables included Corinne Bailey Rae and Renée Zellweger, who expressed very little interest in speaking to the press.
The otherwise typically understated affair saw a major shake-up when Nicki Minaj entered after ushers had already started pleading with showgoers to find their seats. Sporting a blonde bouffant and vest made of rainbow pompons (the work, she later said, of a Japanese label named Dog), Minaj took in the show beside Anna Wintour and Stefano Tonchi. After Herrera’s bow, the rapper drew a flock of photographers as she made for the door. Asked if a line of her own was in the cards, Minaj revealed that something was already in the works. She declined to say with whom. That would ruin the surprise, she said.
