DIANE’S DAY: “She is pop culture,” Tommy Hilfiger said in referring to Diane von Furstenberg at her show Sunday afternoon by way of explaining her longevity. The collection she showed coincided with the 40th anniversary of the wrap dress and the front row was a testament to the designer’s appeal, then and now. Coming to toast von Furstenberg besides Hilfiger were her partner Barry Diller, Fran Lebowitz, actress AnnaSophia Robb (a late late arrival), Nicky and Paris Hilton, Atlanta de Cadenet and even a United Nations U.S. Ambassador, Samantha Power, who is more accustomed to war zones and was at her first ever fashion show. “Can you tell?” she said. “My day job is a little depressing at times, inspiring some of the time and I thought this would be a nice reminder of life.”

Power met the designer recently through Bornfree, an initiative that works on lowering mother-to-baby HIV transmissions. “This is her day job, but what she’s doing to help people with HIV or to prevent people from getting HIV around the world is mind-blowing,” the ambassador said.
