NEW YORK STATE OF MIND: DKNY brought the streets of New York to its fashion show Sunday. The company hired a New York City yellow taxicab with a DKNY taxi top ad to park directly in front of the show’s West 26th Street entrance. Models entered the runway from the street, creating a clever branding effort and DKNY background for all the photographs.
Meantime, seated in the front row was 24-year-old Canadian actress Shay Mitchell, who was attending her first fashion week. Dressed in a hot pink DKNY jacket, Mitchell said she wore the label to the Teen Choice Awards. “I’m all about color,” said Mitchell, who’s gearing up to tape her second season of the TV show “Pretty Little Liars.”
Mark Weber, chief executive officer of Donna Karan International, said DKNY just finished another record year, and the line is doing well internationally in Europe and Asia. What’s selling really well are handbags, accessories and shoes, he said. Plus, he called the new DKNY shop at Bloomingdale’s “a deal changer.”
