“Supermodels of yore” was the pervasive theme at Luca Luca on Thursday. Pat Cleveland, Carol Alt, Petra Nemcova and Irina Pantaeva were all perched in the front row. So too were actor Lorraine Nicholson and socialite Tinsley Mortimer.
Newly-married Nemcova (she wore Marchesa for the big day) won’t be spending Valentine’s Day with her husband, but rest assured they have that base covered. “We had like a pre-Valentine’s [dinner] in Barcelona, and we’ll have one next weekend as well, a second Valentine’s… every day is Valentine’s,” she said. Nemcova said much of her time is preoccupied with her foundation, Happy Hearts Fund, which works to rebuild educational facilities in areas that have been affected by natural disasters. Before her career as a model and philanthropist though, Nemcova studied fashion design, and said of one day designing her own line, “It would have to be right timing, if there was an interesting opportunities, maybe, I’m open to it… I just love the process of creation, and you never know … so, we’ll see.” Nemcova will also be attending Tommy Hilfiger, Vivienne Tam, Diesel and naturally, Marchesa.
Carol Alt was clad head to toe in black, and shared her style secrets saying, “Keep it simple and sexy, classic sexy, it’s very difficult because a lot of women fall over the cliff to trashy.” She also divulged that beyond her well-known “raw diet,” she insisted, “I don’t indulge.”
Luca Luca chief executive officer Amir R. Amir, posed for photos with Alt pre-show. If he looked a tad out of place amongst the model-heavy crowd, perhaps it’s his educational pedigree. Amir said of his MIT graduate degree, “I think I’m the only rocket scientist in fashion.” Amir is putting his intellect to work with a proposed accessories line and an additional Manhattan store in the works. “It’s one of the things that we want to build in this year, we’re working on hiring a great accessories designer. We would do it in house. We’ve done accessories, but we never had a dedicated person. So we’re trying to find that great designer who can work with the team and come up with amazing things. [I want it to be] elegance with a little bit of a classic touch.” Amir was also sure to mention that Luca Luca sales grew over 30 percent in the past year, and the company is introducing its line to Eastern Europe through a show with Eva Magazine in his home country of Austria in March.
