IN MEMORIAM: Pierre Bergé, the longtime partner of Yves Saint Laurent, attended the Saint Laurent men’s show in Paris on Sunday accompanied by the director and star of a new biopic on the late French couturier.

Jalil Lespert, the actor-turned-director who is helming “Yves Saint Laurent,” said he could not have done the project without Bergé’s support.

“My movie is a love story, first and foremost, so naturally I went to him to tell him I needed his input, because at the end of the day, the biographies provide little information about their personal life,” Lespert said. “I literally fell in love with the character and the couple.”

The movie, currently shooting in Paris with Pierre Niney in the title role, is due to be completed by yearend.

Interest in the project is running high, especially since a rival picture, titled “Saint Laurent” and starring Gaspard Ulliel, is currently in preproduction. Lespert dismissed the competition between the two flicks. “I’m not really aware of it. I’m just focusing on my film,” he shrugged.

Kering chairman and chief executive officer François-Henri Pinault, who owns Saint Laurent, was joined at the show by his wife, actress Salma Hayek, and guests including Milla Jovovich, Sky Ferreira and a gaggle of musicians.

Beck, who starred in the spring ad campaign for Saint Laurent, said his modeling debut was relatively painless. “It was comfortable, because we’ve been friends for so long and we shot it in a house by where I live,” said the Los Angeles-based musician, who will play an acoustic concert at the Cité de la Musique in Paris on Tuesday.
