DYNAMIC DUOS: The front row at Hedi Slimane’s debut men’s wear show for Saint Laurent Paris saw plenty of power pairings. Salma Hayek and François-Henri Pinault were in high spirits after enjoying the deep snow blanketing Paris with their daughter Valentina. “She had a snowfight with her Dad. It’s been lovely,” Hayek reported. Valérie Trierweiler, the partner of French President François Hollande, sat next to Anna Wintour, while Pierre Bergé attended with former Saint Laurent muse Betty Catroux.
In true Slimane style, a number of hip musicians were also on the guest list. Citizens! frontman Tom Burke, who features in the Saint Laurent Paris spring campaign, said his group is preparing for a U.S. tour, starting in March. The singer marveled at the giant spaceship-like structure positioned behind the runway. “It’s my first ever runway show, so it’s all rather cool,” he said.
Nicolas Godin, one half of cult French electronic act Air, revealed he’s working on a solo album, due out in September. “It’s a completely different thing from Air. It’s everything I wasn’t able to do, and there’ll be a few collaborations, but I can’t say who, as it’s not signed yet,” he teased. Alex Kapranos said he was busy mixing Franz Ferdinand’s new, as-yet-untitled, album. “Literally, I’ve been in the studio like 12 hours a day until today,” he said.
Pink-haired Californian model and Maybelline spokeswoman Charlotte Free, whose boyfriend Griffin O’Shea walked in the show, said she’s studying the art of electronic music, with the aim of making her own album. “There’ll be a little bit of singing, but mostly computers and the synthesizer. Right now, it’s just a solo project, but my boyfriend and I will probably do a lot of collaborations in the future,” said Free, adding that she also hopes to release her own clothing line over the next couple of years.
