BIQ SQUEEZE: The VIP guest list at Sonia Rykiel was so long, even director Nicole Garcia had trouble squeezing into the front row. “It’s very cramped,” she commented to TV presenter Frédéric Taddeï after finally carving out a spot. “Well yeah, they’ve double-booked as usual,” came the laconic reply. Kanye West unceremoniously booted a senior editor from his seat (Note to West, who is rumored to be pursuing an MA in Fashion at Central Saint Martins in London: It’s probably not the best way to make friends in this industry).
Actresses including Mélanie Laurent, Delphine Chanéac, Marie-Josée Croze, Zoé Felix and Vahina Giocante were among the others crammed in the front row. Cozying up to singer Izia Higelin, Laurent said she was feeling jubilant after having been invited to host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Cannes International Film Festival in May. “It was announced today! I’ve no idea what I’m going to wear yet,” she said.
Croze briefly sought refuge on some steps, before being ordered by a photographer to return to her seat for yet another round of pictures. “That’s what I call directing,” she commented with a good-natured smile.
Croze has just wrapped filming on “Another Kind of Silence,” a road movie that took her from her native Canada to the saltpans of northern Argentina.
Writer Amanda Sthers said she usually prefers to watch the fashion circus from the comfort of her home, but came because Sonia Rykiel artistic director Nathalie Rykiel has designed costumes for “Lili Lampion,” the children’s musical she co-wrote, which is due to open in October. “The character will have a Rykiel look, the typical little Parisienne,” Sthers said.
