SNAP HAPPY: Valentino founder Valentino Garavani and his business partner Giancarlo Giammetti set off a flurry of flashbulbs when they joined Jennifer Lopez in the front row of the Valentino show in Paris.
Observing the scene from the opposite row was photographer Mario Testino, who said he is in the unusual situation of having two books out at once. “Mario Testino: Private View” — with a lenticular cover featuring Lady Gaga — was published by Taschen to coincide with an exhibition of the same name, which opens at the Shanghai Arts Museum on Nov. 2 after a first run in Beijing.
Meanwhile, “Mario Testino: In Your Face” will come out in time for the show of the same name kicking off at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts on Oct. 21. “I hadn’t realized how global the world has gone. I thought I could do something in Asia and it stayed in Asia, but it ain’t like that,” Testino said.
The snapper said he had just finished shooting the cover of Spanish Vogue’s December issue with Kate Moss. “Kate is a never-ending source of inspiration for all of us. She’s fun, she’s clever, she’s kind, beautiful, has tons of style,” he said.
He has also been helping Natalia Vodianova raise money for her Naked Heart Foundation, which builds playgrounds for children in Russia. “I went to open one of them, which was in a hospital for children with cancer. It was very moving,” he said.
Inspired by the Russian model, Testino in July opened Mate, a not-for-profit culture organization in his native Peru. “I’m trying to promote Peruvian art wherever I can and bring things to Peru, and at the same time have my work live in Peru,” he said, adding that the foundation would stage its next exhibition in April 2013.
