HADID’S LAST COLLECTION: Georg Jensen is going for the gold in launching new pieces in the precious material from Zaha Hadid’s final jewelry collection, Lamellae. Eight limited-edition rings in 18-karat yellow gold — four with brilliant-cut diamonds and four without — follow the premiere of her core ring and bangle designs in sterling silver or black rhodium with black diamonds during Baselworld in March. It became available at Georg Jensen’s New York and online stores a few months ago.
“She was never able to see the gold collection come to fruition, but it was a metal that she was very interested in using,” said chief creative officer David Chu, who hosted a preview at the late architect’s pending One Thousand Museum residential high rise in downtown Miami during Art Basel Miami Beach. “We worked on it for nearly two years. In that time, we got to know a woman of extraordinary vision who inspired all of us.”
It isn’t the first time the firm has collaborated with an architect. Arne Jacobsen, Jørgen Møller and Patricia Urquiola are just a few others.
