IF THE SHOE FITS: “It’s the biggest shoe moment I have seen in a long time, and Gianvito Rossi is our fastest-growing shoe brand,” said Justin O’Shea, buying director for Munich-based luxury e-tailer Mytheresa, which threw a dinner in honor of its best-selling designer at the Italian embassy in Paris on Monday night.
Rossi, who just opened a freestanding store on London’s Mount Street and launched his own e-boutique earlier in the year, said he was eying New York next, with a flagship slated for 2015.
Also among the guests enjoying the three-course menu including vitello tonnato, monkfish and plenty of wine in the embassy’s candle-lit Sicilian Theater Room were Princess Deena al-Juhani Abdulaziz, Leigh Lezark, Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis and Jared Leto.
“I am on tour right now. We just played Bulgaria last night, and we are playing in Russia the day after tomorrow,” said Leto, following up with a demonstration of his fluent Russian-language skills. Local socialite Elena Perminova looked impressed. Leto was, too — by the grandeur of the embassy’s interior.
“I was born in very poor Louisiana, so for me to see all this Italian [splendor] is pretty mind-boggling,” he said.
The Oscar-winning actor did not know when he would be back on the big screen, but did not feel any pressure after his performance in “Dallas Buyers Club.” “I don’t think you have to beat it; you can just walk down a different path,” he said.
