Oscar de la Renta Does Double Duty for Henry Kissinger’s 90th Birthday

The designer and Hillary Clinton will leave the CFDA awards to attend.

FASHION STATESMAN INDEED: Well-wishers eager to congratulate CFDA Founders Award winner Oscar de la Renta post-fete tonight will be out of luck. It seems that de la Renta and his megawattage presenter, Hillary Clinton, must leave fashion’s big soiree early due to a double booking. They’re also expected at Henry Kissinger’s 90th birthday party. Nancy Kissinger is hosting the fete, at which all former secretaries of state are expected, along with current secretary John Kerry. The two parties in one night presented a problem for de la Renta, whose award was originally scheduled for last. To facilitate his and Clinton’s early exit, de la Renta “traded places with Vera [Wang],” whose Lifetime Achievement Award was set for first.

The Kissingers and the de la Rentas go way back, and have remained close through decades. So much so that Kissinger wrote part of his most recent book, 2011’s “On China,” at the de la Rentas’ home in the Dominican Republic. He then dedicated the tome, simply, “To Annette and Oscar de la Renta.”
