HOT STUFF: Hermès unveiled the winners of the second edition of its Prix Emile Hermès design awards at a reception Tuesday at the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris. The jury, headed by Japanese architect Toyo Ito, awarded the first prize to Arnaud Le Cat, Esther Bacot and Luther Quenum of collective Unqui Designers for their “Shelved Cooking” project, based on an ergonomic cooking method. “It’s a project that has the potential to revolutionize cooking,” Ito said. The trio scooped up 50,000 euros, or $69,100 at current exchange.
The theme of this edition of the triennial prize was “Heat, me-heat, re-heat.” Hermès artistic director Pierre-Alexis Dumas noted that a total of 1,460 entries from 63 countries was filed after the competition was extended from Europe to the rest of the world.
