KEEPING TIME: Hermès has launched its first flying tourbillon watch, inspired by the décor of its flagship store on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris.
The luxury brand unveiled the timepiece, to be sold in a limited edition of 176 numbered pieces, at the opening of a watch exhibition at the boutique attended by Luc Perramond, chief executive officer of its watchmaking subsidiary La Montre Hermès.
The Arceau Lift watch features a double H motif on the tourbillon carriage and barrel bridge that symbolizes the marriage between Emile Hermès, grandson of the house founder, and Julie Hollande. The insignia appears in wrought iron details inside the store, including on an elevator originally installed in 1923.
The flying tourbillon complication can be viewed through an opening carved out in the back of the watch’s rose gold case, which is engraved with the Hermès ex-libris. The timepiece is fitted with an alligator strap and retails for 128,000 euros in Europe and $165,000 in the United States.
