Hermès Publishes Book of Jargon

French luxury brand joins forces with Actes Sud on series of books.

WORD UP: Hermès International has joined forces with publishing house Actes Sud on the first of a series of jointly edited books. “Petit lexique des gestes Hermès” (“Small lexicon of Hermès gestures” in English) is written by Olivier Saillard, the director of Paris-based fashion museum Musée Galliera, and will go on sale in France on March 14.

The 160-page tome, priced to retail at 20 euros, or $26.50 at current exchange, details the arcane vocabulary used in the Hermès workshops to describe techniques used to produce everything from leather Birkin bags to crystal glasses. Hermès has previously collaborated with Actes Sud on a bookstore inside its flagship store on the Left Bank in Paris, and a temporary bookstore at its Saut Hermès annual show-jumping event at the Grand Palais.
