FACE TIME: Breezing through Tokyo for a one-week visit, Nicky Hilton made an appearance at the Odakyu department store in Shinjuku on Monday, posing for photos with customers and signing autographs.
“I love Japan. I love the people, the shopping, the fashion. I think they have so much fun with fashion…they don’t take it too seriously,” said Hilton, clad in liquid leggings, a striped top and a zippered black blazer from the collection she is launching with Sumitex International Company Ltd. As of Oct. 1, Odakyu will house the first shop-in-shop selling the Japan-exclusive brand called Nicky Hilton.
Fans on hand were able to purchase limited-edition Nicky Hilton t-shirts which were only available on the day of the event.
On Saturday, Hilton and models dressed in her designs walked the runway at consumer fashion show Tokyo Girls Collection. The event, held in an Olympic stadium near Harajuku, drew about 23,000 people and featured brands like Beams, Another Edition, Fila, Kitson and Topshop. The brands’ fall/winter lineup was rife with eighties references like leggings, fluorescent hues, lace and animal prints.
This was Hilton’s second appearance at Tokyo Girls Collection, where attendees can purchase pieces directly via their mobile phones.
“I just thought it was so unique to get [thousands of] fashionista consumers in one room and to show my collection…it’s a no-brainer,” Hilton said. “The technology, and [the fact that] they’re actually buying garments via mobile as they go down the runway is just mind-boggling.”
