Kathy Hilton Stops by Dallas Market Center

Her namesake evening line for Mon Cheri hit the retail trifecta its first season, and the good news is they're getting reorders.

HILTON’S OBSESSION: Kathy Hilton’s namesake evening line for Mon Cheri hit the retail trifecta its first season: The spring collection hangs in Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, contributing to wholesale bookings of $1.4 million. “Business is very good, knock on wood,” Hilton said during a visit to the Dallas Market Center. “We’re getting reorders.” A self-professed “control freak,” Hilton is more than a figurehead for her new label, which embodies her taste for “something classic that you can take down with a flat or dress up with a heel.” She selects fabrics for their drape, test-drives every sample and heeded the advice of her daughter, Nicky. “She said, ‘Check the buttons and zippers, and don’t take anything for granted,’ ” Hilton noted. The wife of hotel heir Rick Hilton worked her booth for the duration of Fashion Coterie last fall, and then made follow-up calls to merchants to check on her line’s performance. While she flashes an emerald-cut white diamond the size of a postage stamp on her left hand, Hilton said she’s equally comfortable shopping at Bergdorf Goodman or Target. “We went to a dinner at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles and Camilla, and I bought this dress for $250,” she recalled. “I said, ‘No one else is going to have it.’ ”
