Anya Hindmarch Honored With Award

HINDMARCH HONORED: Anya Hindmarch won Veuve Clicquot’s Business Woman Award in London Wednesday night. The accessories designer was singled out for both her success in creating her brand, which has 57 stores worldwide, as well as her work as a U.K. trade ambassador, a role in which she’s supported the U.K. government’s Start Up Britain campaign to help mentor a new generation of British entrepreneurs. The award’s judges also praised Hindmarch’s part in popularizing using canvas rather than plastic bags when she launched canvas totes emblazoned with the logo “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” in 2007. The Veuve Clicquot award was conceived 40 years ago to champion women with businesses based or operating in Britain, who share the qualities of the Champagne house’s founder, Madame Clicquot. Hindmarch was a finalist for this year’s award along with Helena Morrissey, the chief executive officer of Newton Investment Management, and Ruth Rogers, chef and owner of London’s River Cafe restaurant.
