HINDMARCH WRAPPED UP: Anya Hindmarch has unveiled her collection of coats and jackets for Barbour, the 116-year-old British label famed for its waxed jackets. The fall collection, which will hit stores in August, comprises two designs, each available as a jacket or a longer coat. The Foxy is made from Barbour’s signature waxed cotton and glammed up with detachable fur cuffs, while the Minx is made from material quilted in Hindmarch’s signature bow design, with a round collar and two large pockets. Both styles feature Hindmarch’s quirky touches, such as inner pockets labeled “lipstick” and “dog and bone” — Cockney rhyming slang for phone. “It was fascinating working in the archives, hearing the Barbour stories behind some of the coats,” said Hindmarch. The collection will be available from Anya Hindmarch stores and Barbour’s Carnaby Street Heritage store in London. Prices start at 249 pounds, or $385 at current exchange, for a Minx jacket in black, brown and olive, and rise to 425 pounds, or $658, for a Foxy coat in black, brown and sage.
NEW ENTRY: It looks like Damiani’s constellation of designers will soon have a new star. The Italian fine jewelry maker and John Galliano are in talks to develop a namesake jewelry line for the designer. Guido Damiani, chief executive officer of the company, confirmed the talks but stressed nothing is definitive yet. Under license, Damiani already makes jewelry collections for Jil Sander, Gianfranco Ferré, Martin Margiela, Ferrari and Ducati, among others.
THROWING A CURVE: If you’re trying to book a top model with some curves on short notice, good luck. Chances are, they’re in Paris at the Left Bank photo studio of Karl Lagerfeld as he shoots the next Pirelli calendar. While the designer and his entourage are sworn to secrecy on the casting — rumor has it one model posted a cell-phone picture on her blog and had to remove it, pronto — Lagerfeld let slip there are “three or four boys in it, too.” Members of Lagerfeld’s crew include makeup artist Peter Philips, hairstylist Sam McKnight and stylist George Cortina, and the four-day shoot is slated to wind up today. The sought-after calendar is to be unveiled in Moscow on Nov. 30 in front of 600 VIPs at the Stanislavsky theatre. Next up: Lagerfeld will put down his digital camera and move on to moving pictures. He’s zooming down to Saint-Tropez to shoot a minimovie for Chanel’s cruise show on May 11. It will feature model Heidi Mount and French actor Pascal Greggory.
MAY DAYS: Fashion will truly be a movable feast next month. Chanel is showing cruise in Saint-Tropez, while Christian Dior is headed to Shanghai. Now comes word that Jean Paul Gaultier is taking his couture to Moscow. Gaultier is slated to reprise his summer high fashion show in the Russian capital on May 14 at the invitation of his partner there, Bosco di Ciliegi, which has operated the designer’s Moscow boutique since 2005.
TAILORED TOUCHDOWN: College football’s finest will converge on New York next week for the 2010 NFL Draft at Radio City Music Hall — and Sean John is aiming to get top players into its suits for the three-day televised event. The brand has invited a bevy of top draft prospects to its Fifth Avenue store for a “pre-draft fine tailoring experience,” where it will provide them with custom fitted suits and an on-site tailor. Players will be chauffeured to and from the store in Rolls-Royce cars. “We decided the best reward for their excellence in the game was one of our fine tailored suits,” said Sean John founder and chief executive officer Sean “Diddy” Combs. The initiative is being overseen for Sean John by Conversion Sports and Entertainment. Confirmed potential NFL draftees who will be participating include Nebraska’s Ndamukong Suh, Tennessee’s Eric Berry, Oklahoma State’s Russell Okung and Clemson’s C.J. Spiller, among others. Sean John suits are licensed to Peerless Clothing.
MR. CHARRON GOES TO WASHINGTON: Paul Charron is moving in some powerful circles these days. He’s been appointed to the U.S. Department of State’s Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy. The ACIEP advises the U.S. Department of State on international economic policy issues such as U.S.-China relations; the impact of the global financial crisis on U.S. international business operations, and free trade agreements. Charron was headed to his first meeting in Washington today at the State Department. He said Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “knew I was interested in service,” and he got a letter inviting him to join the committee, which meets three to four times a year and is comprised of senior representatives of U.S. corporations, state and local governments, policy institutions, trade and labor associations and academia. Members serve two-year terms on a noncompensatory basis. “It keeps me busy,” said Charron, who’s also a senior advisor at Warburg Pincus and chairman of the board of Campbell Soup.
BARNEYS BAGS SELBY: If the power of bloggers wasn’t yet apparent, check out Barneys New York’s signature black shopping bag this evening. The retailer has allowed photo blogger Todd Selby to promote his Web site and new book, “The Selby Is in Your Place,” by drawing caricatures of his subjects all over the face of it. The bag will be available only to those who purchase the tome during tonight’s cocktail party in Selby’s honor. “Our bag is really sacred to us: If we let somebody redesign it, then we must really love them,” said Simon Doonan, who happens to appear in the book and on the bag. “We once did a Warhol bag, so Todd is in good company.”
IFS AND ANDS: Kiera Chaplin has signed up as the ambassador of Viennese designer jewelry line AND_i. The granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin and a great-granddaughter of playwright Eugene O’Neill, Chaplin was photographed by former model Stefan Armbruster. AND_i was founded in 2001 and has a celebrity following that includes Lady Gaga and Beyoncé Knowles. Chaplin’s been busy multitasking. Alongside inking a deal with AND_i, she is writing a mystery novel set in the fashion world.
