HIS OWN TUNE: The young British violinist Charlie Siem took to the stage at London’s Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Thursday night to play the piece of music that he had composed for CBS Watch magazine, following the announcement of the music and publishing collaboration late last year. Dressed in a bespoke Meyer & Mortimer suit, Siem played the composition, called “Canopy,” along with pieces from his forthcoming album “Under the Stars,” which will be released in September under the Sony Classical label.
While Siem acknowledged that the recent intense work of recording the album and composing the new piece had been “tough at times,” he said he’s determined to push the boundaries in his career. “Life’s about going out of your comfort zone and doing things that you don’t think you can quite do,” mused Siem. “That’s how you reveal more and how you evolve as a human being.”
