NEW KICKS: Hollister Co. has joined the Keds bandwagon, becoming the latest in a string of retailers and designers to collaborate with the sneaker brand on exclusive product. On Thursday, Hollister, a division of Abercrombie & Fitch Co., began selling Keds sneakers through HollisterCo.com. The launch includes 10 styles total — 7 of which are Keds in-line styles and 3 of which are Hollister exclusive prints. Abercrombie will continue to set new Hollister exclusive prints this fall. The products can also be seen, but not bought, in Hollister store displays.
“Both brands have a youthful, passionate fan base and Hollister’s Southern California inspired clothes look great styled with Keds sneakers,” said Gillian Galner, group vice president of brand merchandising for Abercrombie & Fitch, who also noted that up to now, Hollister has sold flip-flops but no other footwear. “With the Hollister collaboration our classic Champion sneaker gets a major shot of California style,” added Rick Blackshaw, president of Keds.
In 1916 Keds introduced Champion sneakers. Recently, Keds has collaborated with such firms as Kate Spade New York, Alice & Olivia, Opening Ceremony, Madewell, Gap, Barneys and Bloomingdale’s, as well as with Taylor Swift.
