ICE, ICE BABY: “No, I didn’t bring my skates! They are still getting polished,” said L’Wren Scott at the Coach-sponsored outdoor party to open the ice skating rink at Somerset House in London this week. It may have been five years since the statuesque designer strapped on her ice skates, but she was in a festive mood nonetheless, decked in an all-white ensemble and a coat with metallic swirls. “I just came out to see my friends singing tonight. And I wanted to see all of this — Somerset House is so beautiful.”
Coach whipped up a winter wonderland for its debut sponsorship of the annual event at Somerset House. The cobblestone entryway leading into the 18th-century courtyard on The Strand was covered in fake snow, while the pathway was lined with fir trees. The 40-feet-high Coach Christmas tree stood next to the ice rink, and was decorated with gilded stars, lights and silver Coach tags, while the Hackney Colliery brass band played live tunes. Floating bubbles in the shape of handbags were cast into the sky.

Scott joined guests including Philip Treacy, Alice Temperley, Henry Holland, Poppy Delevingne, Lily Cole and Tallulah Harlech. While some guests gathered around the tree with their cocktails and canapés, others hit the ice. The Big Pink, a British electronic rock band, performed — with Mary Charteris singing — later in the evening.
