ON THE AIR: Six months after IMG Models launched an Australian division — and began luring big names from local agencies, notably Miranda Kerr and Gemma Ward — the agency announced on Friday that it is moving into the Australian television market, by partnering with Foxtel’s “Australia’s Next Top Model.”
IMG Models will offer the winner of the 2013 show contracts with its various development divisions. Meanwhile, IMG Models vice presidents of development, David Cunningham and Jeni Rose will join the five-state, six-city “Australia’s Next Top Model” audition roadshow, which kicks off in Adelaide on Sunday.
One of over 50 international editions of Tyra Banks‘ popular model scouting show, “Australia’s Next Top Model” is considered to be the most successful of the Next Top Model franchise, producing a series of winners — Alice Burdeu, Amanda Ware and Montana Cox — who launched straight from the winner’s podium into international runway careers.
“The Australian brand is very compelling to us because I felt the wealth of talent and the quality was extraordinary,” said Ivan Bart, IMG Models senior vice president and managing director. “The talent pool is so amazing. It’s a huge continent. There’s a lot of opportunity in many places in Australia and there are beautiful women there. “
