TURKISH DELIGHT: Marking the latest chapter in a sort of sister cities-style swap between Berlin and Istanbul, four Turkish designers were highlighted Friday during the German capital’s recent fashion week.
Through the Istanbul Next initiative, the young women were present at the Capsule trade show as well as on-site in the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin tent.
Asli Filinta’s solo presentation highlighted her voyage-inspired sportswear collection “The New World,” which was influenced by 15th-century Ottoman mapmaker Piri Reis. A group runway show presented Ece Gözen’s “sportcouture” looks, Nazli Bozdag’s leather dresses and separates, and Nevra Karaca No.7’s topological shapes.
Later, the featured designers and fashion types grazed on a Turkish buffet at concept store Voo, located in the city’s multicultural Kreuzberg neighborhood. That, along with the plentiful anise-flavored liquor Raki on offer, was good fortification for a closing party featuring singer Dena. That was co-hosted by Berlin’s Sleek Magazine, media partner of the Istanbul Next program.
