La Rinascente Employees Arrested for Theft

Ten employees of the high-end department store stole more than $135,000 worth of designer merchandise in under a year.

IT’S A STEAL: Ten employees at Milan’s high-end department store La Rinascente have been arrested for pilfering 100,000 euros (about $135,750) worth of designer merchandise in under a year, including clothes, perfume, cell phones and iPads. The thieves routinely hand-picked newly arrived goods and stuffed their coat pockets, until security cameras caught the scam on video and increasingly suspicious store managers called the police.

A spokeswoman for La Rinascente confirmed the incident, but declined to specify which fashion brands were swiped by the disloyal employees.
