IT’S RAINING GUCCI: The Amazon Forest is so last season. The new tropical wetland of choice is the Pantanal, located in western Brazil. Larger than the size of France and home to more than 650 species of birds, 300 kinds of fish, reptiles, mammals and exotic plants, its richness is the inspiration for a new and limited Gucci accessories collection. Frida Giannini and team painted macaws and lush green foliage over a white canvas in two sizes of totes — Sacca GG Plus carry-on (3,240 reais, or $1,785), and the Joy handbag (2,100 reais, or $1,157) — as well as silk scarves (530 reais, or $292) for the brand’s new 5,400-square-foot store in the Cidade Jardim mall in São Paulo.
The new store received 50 bags and another 70 are being shipped from Florence to Gucci’s other Brazilian units in the near future. This is Gucci’s second store in the nation’s luxury shopping mecca and third in the country. Its other shops are in the Iguatemi malls in São Paulo and Brasília.
