True to her British roots, Jane Birkin’s favorite topic of conversation at the Dries Van Noten show on Wednesday was the weather — and extreme weather at that. The actress and singer just gave a series of concerts in Washington and New York, where she got caught in an epic blizzard. “We drove nine hours to get to New York,” said Birkin, sitting under gilded chandeliers in an ornate ballroom inside Paris City Hall. “The people came anyway — they were very valiant soldiers.” The musical theme continued with the soundtrack of the show, composed by former Sex Pistols manager Malcolm McLaren, which blended snatches of the “Vertigo” film soundtrack with vocals from British post-punk band The Mekons (and some cowbells for good measure). Photographer Ellen von Unwerth, known for her sexy portraits of women, revealed that she had just shot the German soccer team that will be competing in the World Cup in South Africa in June. “It’s very surprising,” she said of the session, which will be published in German weekly Stern. “I don’t want to reveal too much — but they’re not playing football.”
Jane Birkin and Jared Leto Front Row at Dries van Noten
In an odd juxtaposition, Jane Birkin and Jared Leto sat (separately) in the front row at Dries van Noten.
